Local travel in the czech republic |
In Prague public transport, particularly the central part of the Metro network, remains disrupted following the August flooding, but is steadily improving, with additional metro replacement bus and tram services in place. The main coach and railway stations are now open, but some routes may still be changed or subject to delay. Visitors planning to drive to the Czech Republic may like to consult a local
motoring hotline, available in Czech and English on (00 420) 1230. Public transport tickets must be purchased before travelling and must be validated at the start of the journey either at the machines at metro stations or on trams/buses. Those travelling with invalid tickets will be subject to a spot fine, usually around 400 crowns (£8.00 / 27 Euro). The tickets can be bought at most large hotels, metro stations and many newspaper stands. |

The history of the czech flag | Rate of Exchange |
The symbol of the Czech state, a white-red-and-blue flag in a simple geometric pattern, was created in 1920, shortly after the founding of the first
independent Czechoslovak state. The white, red, and blue colors are both symbolic and historic. White (or silver) is the traditional color of Bohemia and represents the sky. Moravia is symbolized by the color red which also represents the blood shed for the freedom of the state. Blue is the traditional colour of Slovakia. It is also symbolic of impartiality and
sovereignty. When Czechoslovakia split into two independent states in January 1993, the Czech Republic kept this flag as its own. While the blue triangle no longer represents Slovakia, it does remain a symbol of impartiality and sovereignty.
