Cesky Krumlov lies 1 80 km south of Prague near the border with Austria. This picturesque town lies in the deep, meandering valley of the Vltava in Southern Bohemia. The period of its
flourishing is linked with the reign of the Lords of Rozmberk (1302-1602), who made of the town their residence. At this ti me Krumlov was situated in a place where contacts were being made between the Czech interior, the Austrian and Bavarian Danube basin,
and northern Italy. The Italian renaissance greatly enriched the shape of the town and chateau. At the end of the 17th century, during the reign of the family Eggenberk, a baroque theatre was built and the chateau gardens laid out anew. During the period of the family Schwarzenberk, Krumlov attained its baroque ornamentation. However, Cesky Krumlov means more than only an exceptional complex of three hundred years of historical buildings. For its visitors the town is also a cultural,
congress and tourist centre. The International Music Festival, The Renaissance Music Festival, and theatre performances take place in the chateau garden, there are the summer Festivities of the Cinquefoil Rose, and the Egon Schiele Centre has been founded.
